Job Title: Product Engineer
Role: Full time, permanent role
Location: Tamworth, Staffs
Salary: £40 – £46,000 pa – depending on experience brought to the role.
Mon – Thursday 8.00am – 4.30pm
Friday 8.00am – 1.30pm
Our client is a mechanical control Cable manufacturer with its roots in India and now with operations around the world. In Tamworth UK is a warehouse, repacking and quality hub supplying Indian manufactured cables to BMW and VW amongst others both in UK and EU.
1. Main Purpose of Role
* Working directly with customers to assist in the design and development of engineering solutions for mechanical cable systems utilized in automotive products.
* Working within a professional Project Team to deliver programs from Concept to Production.
* Execute Engineering tasks within projects to meet schedule, budget, and specifications
2. Main Duties
* Analyze and interpret the customer requirements to determine feasibility of product proposal.
* To develop and design the product or part from the first idea through the design process and the validation phase until the product is implemented in production.
* To work in accordance with the defined design process and to observe given legislation, directives and concessions which may affect the given area of design.
* To be responsible for developing and establishing layout and packing models, CAD drawings for prototypes and serial production.
* To ensure that the products meet all relevant specifications and are designed for assembly under normal serial production conditions
* Working directly with the customer, communicating technical requirements, project timing, and customer desirables.
* Facilitate design reviews with customer.
* Assist customer with installing prototypes, noting issues or recommended improvements.
* Support customer builds when needed.
* In co-operation with test and validation department to ensure that test specifications and methods are correct and correspond to customer’s expectations.
* Working within a Cross Functional Team, complete required deliverables identified by the Project Manager / Team to comply with the project Cost, Quality & Delivery expectations.
* Execute all other reasonable duties as requested by the R&D Manager.
3. Areas of Responsibility
* Completion of engineering tasks.
* Provide input for the development of new products.
* Ensure completion of design documents and properly file into appropriate project folders.
* Coordinate the manufacture of sample parts with the production plant.

* Achieving the timing and deliverables of the project.

Skills, Knowledge, Experience
Required:
* BS Degree in Mechanical engineering
* Background in Automotive Engineering
* Minimum of 3 years’ experience in Product or Application Engineering
* Skilled practitioner in Catia or equivalent 3D modelling software and PLM – Primarily our customer work with Catia V5 although familiarity with NX would be a bonus.
* Good working knowledge of computer systems; MS office, MS Project, MRP
* Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
* Prior mechanism assembly design experience
Desirable:
* LEAN principles / Business Improvement Techniques
* Plastic Injection Moulded and die cast part design experience
* Second language
